Livingston County Schools Prefers Extortion Of Parents Over Transparency and Safety...

Updated: Oct 4, 2024

The people that contribute to the Livingston Lantern also collect Freedom of Information Act information to support the content we provide.

Recently, we posted a story about the Title IX violation against a five year old boy at Hornung elementary that was flagrant abuse by the school administration and completely covered up and disregarded by 4 school board members (one being the board president). We provided the statement made by the five year olds mother that was not allowed to be made at a school board meeting.

Recently, one of our contributors sent a FOIA to Brighton Area Schools FOIA Coordinator regarding an investigation conducted by the Johnson Miller law firm concerning multiple Title IX violations that have occurred within Brighton Area Schools.

The FOIA request was denied as you can see below:

Our team decided to narrow our FOIA to just the specific case of the abuse of the Hornung kindergarten student. We recieved a response with the total of the cost for providing us the emails and correspondence surrounding this abuse to see the scope at which certain board members will go to evade taking responsibility for the actions of the BAS administration (even though we have a good chunk of the communications already).

Did you know the FOIA Coordinator required $85.59 per hour to be paid to collect emails between 4 elected board members for just this one incident? Then to redact this information they require to be paid an additional $45.09 per hour? These fees (totaling more than $350) are to be paid prior to the release of the request.

The FOIA Coordinator is paid a salary by the district to preform the duty of completing Freedom of Information Act requests. The district requires tax payers (who literally pay the salary of the administration) an additional $45-$82 per hour to answer questions as to the corrupt practices of elected board members and the administrative body.

Here is the cost of the most recent FOIA request:

Do you see how they ransom information from the tax payer? Do you see how difficult they make it to find the truth? The flagrant larceny in this district is almost as disgusting as the corrup practices of this administration!

They dont want you to know how they are spending your tax dollars. They dont want you to know how abuse of your children is being covered up. They want you to pay a high price for public information with absolutely zero accountability.

Happy December 1st, Livingston County friends and neighbors!!
